The NetSmartz
Workshop®
Utah Schools are implementing NetSmartz as
an interactive, educational resource from the National Center for Missing
& Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America
for children, teens, parents, educators, and law enforcement that uses
age-appropriate, 3-D activities to teach children how to stay safer

Ideas for implementing NetSmartz in your
school.
Preparation:
Designate Internet Safety Week in your school.
- Have the Principal, Curriculum Technology Specialist, PTA Representative
and Computer Lab Assistant or Media Coordinator work closely together
to develop a plan so that all students and parents in the school participate
in an appropriate awareness (jump start) activity.
- Order NetSmartz brochures to send home to parents by calling 1.800.THE.LOST.
The first 50 are free per teacher request and 10 cents a brochure
thereafter. The brochures are available in English and Spanish.
- Coordinate parent nights to complement what the students are learning
at school.
- Contact law enforcement to arrange an officer to come address the
students about Internet Safety.

- You can use the NetSmartz activites online or have your district
technician download the NetSmartz activities on individual computers.
- Do activites as a whole class or have students do activities at
individual machines or a combination of both.
