Standard 1: Students will acquire number sense and perform operations with whole numbers.

  • Objective 1 -- Represent whole numbers in a variety of ways.
  • Objective 2 -- Identify simple relationships among whole numbers
  • Objective 3 -- Model and illustrate meanings of the operations of addition and subtraction and describe how they relate.
    • Watch Addem is a series of short animated clips dealing with addition and subtraction. The focus is on using strategies for adding and subtracting, including counting up/down, adding to 10's, etc. Links to specific stories:

    • Snakes and Ladders - Students practice adding skills.
    • Test the Toad - Students add and subtract single-digit numbers.

    • Students can see how addition and subtraction work using this interactive Number line.
    • Students use a bounce number line and a group of numbers to add and subtract to a given number.
