Microorganisms
Standard 5 Science Benchmark
Microorganisms are those living things that are visible as individual
organisms only with the aid of magnification. Investigation of microorganisms
is accomplished by observing organisms using direct observation with
the aid of magnification, observation of colonies of these organisms
and their waste, and observation of microorganisms’ effects on
an environment and other organisms.Students will understand that microorganisms
range from simple to complex, are found almost everywhere, and are both
helpful and harmful.
Infection
• Detection • Protection
This site from the American Museum of Natural History With this Web
celebrates the triumphs of microbe hunters and disease detectives. Today,
scientists know how to battle and even prevent many diseases caused
by bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. Thanks to vaccines, some deadly
diseases no longer claim millions of lives in the U.S. Students can
Meet the Microbes, find Bacteria in the Cafeteria, learn about Infection
and How Lou Got the Flu, and solve a Mixed-Up Microbe Mystery.

TryScience
TryScience.org wants you to experience the excitement of contemporary
science and technology through online and offline interactivity with
science and technology centers worldwide. Science is exciting, and it's
for everyone! That's why TryScience and over 400 science centers
worldwide invite you to investigate, discover, and try science yourself.
TryScience is brought to you through a partnership between IBM
Corporation, the New York Hall of Science (NYHOS), the Association of
Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), and science centers worldwide. New
interactive content is added regularly to these areas: Adventure
(thematic interactive experiences), Experiments, Field Trips(interactive
science center features, Curious?(polls and activities based on a hot
topic question), and Live Cams.
Robert Krampf’s
Experiment of the Week
Scientist Robert Krampf shares his love of science with young people.
Join the
Experiment of the Web List and each week you will get a new experiment
that you can try yourself, experiments that are unusual, safge, dramatic,
cheap, and fun.
How Stuff Works
In language we can all understand, with clear diagrams to supplement
the text, this Web site does just what it says: explains both natural
phenomena and human inventions. Topics range from “How C Programming
Works, to “How Boolean Logic Works.”
