Before You Start a Classroom Podcast |
|
|
|
So you want to start a classroom podcast.
Great! Before starting let us recommend a few things.
-
Make sure you understand everything that is involved with producing a podcast. A good first step is to take the Podcasting in the Classroom professional development class.
-
Work with your Curriculum Technology Specialist to help you get up and going.
-
Podcasts fall under the same rules and policies as other publishing guidelines such as web pages.
-
Before you get too far along make sure you inform your administrator about your plans. They hate surprises.
-
Also inform your parents. The same rules for a signed release need to be followed. The district release form can be downloaded here . If a parent chooses not to have their student participate "on-air" involve them in other ways, such as writing, editing, or recording.
-
If you choose to podcast, never allow students to use their real names. Let them pick "radio names" or pseudonyms.
-
Before committing long term, do a "pilot" show to gauge how it is going to work in your classroom.
-
Review all product before it is posted. You hate "surprises" too. You should always be involved in the final edit and listen to the show before it is posted.
- Make sure students, or you are not using things that infringe on the copyrights of others.
