Kindergarten - Second Grade Keyboarding Recommendations
Teach K-2 students to:

  • Use left hand right hand correctly.
  • Use the shift key to capitalize.
  • Use the space bar between words. (reinforce 1 space)
  • Use the space bar after puncutation. (1 space after periods)

Third Grade Keyboarding Recommendations

Using a classroom set of AlphaSmarts, students will receive a minimum of 30 minutes of instruction, four days a week for five consecutive weeks. Teachers will use Keyboard Chatter Lesson Plans to provide the instuction.

Fourth Grade Keyboarding Recommendations

Using a classroom set of AlphaSmarts, students will receive keyboarding instructions 15-20 minutes, twice a week. Keyboard Craze Lesson Plans will be used to provide the instruction.

Fifth and Sixth Grade Keyboarding Recommendations

Using the computer lab or AlphaSmarts, students will receive keyboarding instruction 15-20 minutes, twice a week. Keyboarding For Kids books will be used to provide the instruction. Teachers may also use the Keyboarding For Kids software package if they desire. Speedbuilding drills should be used and timings should be given at this level.

Keyboarding For Kids - Is self-paced and individualized: by grade level, by reading level, from slow learners to fast learners. KBK is textbook based where the students have a goal, a score to beat, and a time limit. Scores the meet the accuracy standard are automaticaly saved to a Goal/Progress Report which can be printed periodically if desired.
